Match Report: Unicorns Trophy - Sunday 27 April 2014......
A poor batting display by Hertfordshire resulted in a loss in their opening group game of the Unicorns Trophy.
Suffolk won the toss at Ipswich School and elected to bowl and Nesan Jeyaratnam and Ed Ballard put in 34 in the first seven overs.
However, Jeyeratnam was caught at point and then the innings disintegrated as wickets fell in quick succession, mostly to very poor shots.
70-5 is not a scorecard that promises victory and despite repair work by Ben Frazer and then Alex Spencer the total of 172 was about 30 runs too few.
The bowlers did give the team a chance as they reduced Suffolk to 76-5 but it only needed one brief counter-attacking cameo for the total to be broken. It came, as did wickets to keep the game close but ultimately the defeat came in the 48th over with two wickets needed.
A poor loss which was most disappointing as the players ignored many of the disciplined traits that had served so well the previous year.
