Service to Sport Award for Local Stalwart.....
Congratulations to Stevenage Cricket Club Chairman and Hertfordshire Cricket stalwart Richard Burling, who was runner up at the Hertfordshire Sports Partnership Awards 2014 in the 'Service to Sport' category.
The 'Service to Sport' category highlights and recognises an individuals (or groups) outstanding contribution and service to sport over a period of time.
Forty-two sports volunteers received trophies on Tuesday evening at the renowned Herts Service to Sport Awards 2014. Held at the Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire, popular and entertaining host David Croft, Sky Sports F1 commentator, welcomed around 400 guests to the occasion.
An independent judging panel assessed nominations for 125 individuals who make a significant contribution to supporting sport in Hertfordshire. There were 42 trophies presented to volunteers representing 25 different sports that included archery, roller hockey, riding for the disabled and fencing as well as a range of more traditional sports.
Andrew Wilding, international basketball freestyler and our special guest, David Moorcroft, former 5,000m world record holder and director of sports volunteer charity ‘Join In’ entertained the audience.
Back in September, Richard was recognised in the NatWest OSCAs (Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards), where he won the outstanding contribution in the category of 'Leagues and Boards'.
