Charles Stringer, Hertford CC.......
.
It is with sadness we record the death of Charles Stringer on 17th August at the grand age of 94.
Charles was a man possessed of great energy and optimism. Although he had been a member since 1986 he first became involved with the organisation of the Association in 1995 when he took over the management of the County U16 XI. In due course he went on to manage all boys cricket from age 11 to 16.
He was an able administrator, a combative, quick thinking and eloquent member of Council whose support and advice I valued greatly during my days as Chairman. He had no pretentions and a great sense of ‘fair play’. There were occasions when Charles was impatient with officials from other counties (and our own!) and there will be groups of boys and their parents grateful for his help, loyalty and guidance.
In retirement Charles, who had an excellent memory, would delight in recalling the exploits of boys who played through his various squads and rejoice in their successes as they moved on. Upon retirement in 2006 he was elected a Vice President of the Association.
Our condolences go out to Beverly, his wife and his three children, Jim, Jo and Tom and their families
