Delays in processing DBS applications in Metropolitan Police area.....
We have recently been made aware of the difficulties that are being caused by the slow turn around of DBS checks in the Metropolitan Police area – see below:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dbs-check-delays-at-the-metropolitan-police
The outcome of this is potentially somebody applying next week for a DBS check could be waiting until the middle of July for their DBS certificate.
In the meantime, ECB are proposing a temporary solution:
For renewals, so long as it is confirmed that the new application has been made, ECB will extend their clearance for 3 months upon request from County Boards/County Welfare Officers.
For new applicants, again so long as it is confirmed that the application has been made, they will be able to take on the activity they are being vetted for, but in order for clubs not to be in breach of their legal obligations, they must be supervised/supported by somebody who IS DBS checked.
This may alleviate some of the problems, but we know that it is not ideal. It is very important that clubs / club welfare officers check and confirm that an application has been made.
If you need confirmation that the application has been made, please contact the Richard Burling, County Welfare Officer or the Hertfordshire Cricket Office on 01707 285824.
