Lydia Greenaway spends the day in Hertfordshire...
England International Cricketer Lydia Greenway recently completed a tour of Hertfordshire visiting St Andrews C of E Primary School (Hitchin), The William Ransom School (Hitchin), Therfield First School (Royston) and Hitchin Girls School, inspiring the next generation of girls to play cricket. Lydia also attended a club session in West Hertfordshire at Watford Town Cricket Club, coaching a joint under 13 girls session for Watford Town CC and Abbots Langley CC respectively.
The international star, who combine’s her role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador with her international training and playing commitments, coached children from across Hertfordshire.
The Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine campaign, currently employs seven England players on coaching contracts. Combining their international training and playing commitments with high quality inspirational coaching, young girls in Hertfordshire had the unique opportunity to meet and be coached by the country’s top female cricketers.
Now well into its ninth year, the Chance to Shine campaign continues to motivate and educate youngsters through cricket, with more girls than ever playing last year. Of the 350,000 youngsters engaged in Chance to Shine in 2013, 46% were girls.
Dominic Chatfield, Community Cricket Development Consultant for North Hertfordshire commented: “We are delighted that Lydia Greenway visited our county and schools. It was a great experience for the children and a real inspiration for our girls to continue to play cricket and enjoy the game. The schools themselves thoroughly enjoyed having Lydia in and took full advantage of the session”
Gulfraz Riaz of Watford Town CC said: “We were really pleased to be given an opportunity to host Lydia Greenway at Watford Town CC and it was fantastic to see so many girls come along for the coaching session from Watford Town CC and Abbots Langley CC. All the girls had a great time and no doubt were inspired to continuing enjoying their cricket having had a chance to spend a quality coaching session with Lydia. We thank Hertfordshire Cricket, Chance to Shine and Lydia for making this happen.
