Dear All
This week's bulletin contains information on Covid-19 Guidance, a lesson on where not to hit your sixes and a Spotlight on Pirbright CC.
We want to ensure cricket continues to plays it’s part in ensuring the safe opening up of society and that we continue to be highly respected thanks to the efforts of club volunteers up and down the country. Please can you ensure all your players and volunteers continue to follow the latest guidance for recreational cricket.
Pirbright CC are a village side in the Guildford borough of Surrey. Two seasons ago they approached the Surrey Cricket Foundation about starting a junior section, utilising the excellent links they have with Pirbright Village Primary school. The club wrote a development plan, and set out to start their section, firstly by engaging with two local schools (Pirbright Village Primary and Knowle Hill SEN school), utilising the Chance to Shine program for the delivery. Numbers grew quickly despite the pandemic, and within the space of a year the club are playing within the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship and have over 80 matches scheduled for players aged 4-12.
More recently they have started a walking cricket team for those over the age of 65, providing those older members of the community the opportunity to remain active, as well as giving them the chance to socialise and meet other people during the week. And they are due to play their first match very soon.
Leg side, half volley, got to go for six – just make sure you don’t hit your own car!
