T20 - Flitwick Cricket Club - Friday 20 June 2014
Hertfordshire: 156/10
Bedfordshire: 138/7
Herts win by 18 Runs
A young Hertfordshire team defeated a strong Bedfordshire side at Flitwick on Friday with a performance that augured well with many youngsters performing well under pressure.
Herts were inserted and 17 year old Joe Cooke and Eddie Ballard delivered a century partnership in just over 10 overs. The pitch was good and outfield fast but both played some excellent shots and ensured the Bedfordshire bowlers were constantly under pressure.
Cooke was caught after reaching a well deserved half-century and that started a collapse in which the whole innings were out before with the score only progressed to 156. It was a mixture of naive batting and over excitement, particularly when Ballard was dismissed.
In the field though the bowlers were excellent. George Scott, Simon White and Scott Galloway were very good but the two stand out bowlers were James Southgate, the eventual Man on the Match whose figures were 4-1-2-7 and leg spinner Prith Sarvaiya who had two catches dropped off his excellent four overs.
Indeed if the catching had been as good as the superb ground fielding the match would have been won by many more than the eventual 18.
