Anne Vine from Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club was awarded a National NatWest OSCA in the category of Officiating - Umpires and Scorers at the ECB's annual NatWest OSCA'sawards attended by over 400 people on Monday 6th October at Lords Cricket Ground.
Anne was shortlisted for the national award after winning the County OSCAs award in September. She was presented with her award by ICC Elite Panel Umpire and Current Umpire of the year Richard Kettleborough.
Anne’s first role was 2nd XI scorer, which she took over from her son. Typically, she felt she should ensure the club wasn’t inconvenienced by his graduation to senior cricket.
Since then, Anne’s put much work into WGCCC and Hertfordshire cricket.
In 2010 Anne became WGCCC Secretary, bringing her considerable skills of administration and diplomacy, and always providing excellent support in this increasingly demanding role.
She’s WGCCC’s SHCL representative, ensuring the club is aware of (and involved in resolving) league issues, and liaising actively with other clubs- Specifically helping to organise Herts clubs respond to the HCPL challenges
Anne’s also membership secretary, efficiently ensuring details are updated and subs paid. Anne’s communications keep the club together, via website updates, emails and notices.
Anne’s also 1st XI scorer! She runs scoring courses for parents for junior matches, and scorers for senior teams.
Anne’s involved in HCCA, organising scorers for county junior matches, and if none are available will score herself.
Anne provides regular cricket club representation on the Digswell Park Sports Association committee.
Anne shows real club spirit in her friendly, positive approach and her willingness to help whether in the kitchen (her cakes are fantastic) or organising a quiz.
Anne attended the NatWest OSCAs event along side the 5 other Hertfordshire Winners: -
Richard Burling (Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League)
Ross Goodship (Stevenage CC & Nobel School)
Helen Foy (Nobel School)
Mike Sibley (Old Owens CC)
Chris Johnson (Knebworth Park CC)
Chris Johnson was also shortlisted for the National award in the "Lifetime Achievement" category and finished as one of the runners up.
Congratulations Anne on a well deserved award.
