A summary of the 2017 YTNCW in Hertfordshire......
Hertfordshire Cricket hosted a full programme of activities during Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week supported by Chance to Shine from 19th - 26th June.
We started the week on Monday with a school takeover at Four Swannes Primary School in Waltham Cross where we delivered practical cricket sessions to every class at the school, they got the chance to have a go at batting, bowling and fielding as well as a match for each year group to finish off the session. We also had planned cricket related classroom activities with word searches, the history of cricket and cricket related art work.
On Tuesday, we had our first girls chance to compete festival of the year with the U13 tournament held at Stevenage CC, ten teams from across the county competed in the Super 8 tournament which was of a very high standard this year. Eventual winners Tring beat Herts & Essex in a highly contested final, Tring will now go into the regional chance to compete festival in Springfield, Essex on Tuesday 11th July.
Wednesday saw our first ever SEN 6Ts festival at Amwell View, six special schools took part in inaugural event. We had some fantastic matches and have found a game that is accessible to everyone, a lovely day weather wise culminated in Breakspeare taking the spoils and Amwell View finishing runners up.
Our U15 girls chance to compete festival at Bishops Stortford was our final YTNCW event, eight schools from around Hertfordshire travelled to compete in what was the best festival of the week. Some brilliant tactical cricket was played across the board and eventual winners Tring who won a close final against Beaumont meant that they have qualified for the regional final again at Springfield, Essex on Thursday 13th July.
On top of the events above, a number of our schools supported Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week by running their own events and activities through out the week which had cricket based themes.
It was another highly successful week in which we were able to provide an insight into all of the opportunities provided across the county and really support Chance to Shine in spreading the power of cricket.
Finally we would like to thank all of the clubs, schools, coaches and volunteers who contributed to and supported the week!
