Hertfordshire Secondary Schools involved in Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week with Chance to Compete Under 13 and Under 15 Festivals
Secondary Schools from all across Hertfordshire have this week been involved in outdoor cricket tournaments following the success of the indoor tournaments earlier on in the year. The tournaments were arranged to fall within Yorkshire Tea "National Cricket Week", with lots of primary schools across the county taking part in chance to shine coaching sessions and kwik cricket festivals within their districts.
The Under 13 tournament took place on Monday afternoon at Stevenage Cricket Club. Watford Girls, Nobel, Roundwood Park, Hitchin Girls, Chauncy, John Warner and Turnford took part in a round robin style tournament with the eventual winners being Roundwood Park – who now go on to the regional finals for their age group next month.
Tuesday was the turn of the U15 girls to take part in a tournament at Bishops Stortford Cricket Club, with Nobel, Turnford, Simon Balle, Knights Templar and John Warner taking part. Nobel were the winners on the day going on to the regional finals as well.
The tournaments were a great opportunity for girls to be able to compete against each other, with everyone enjoying themselves and embracing the spirit of cricket!
Chances to Compete tournaments are taking place across the country due to the cricket foundations Chance to Shine campaign.
Now well into its ninth year, the Chance to Shine campaign continues to motivate and educate youngsters through cricket, with more girls than ever playing last year. Of the 350,000 youngsters engaged in Chance to Shine in 2013, 46% were girls.
Hertfordshire Cricket would like to thank Stevenage and Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club's for their help and support in hosting the competitions and to all the schools for taking part and congratulations to our two winners Roundwood Park and Nobel.
