Simon Gelber, Hertfordshire Seniors and Old Haberdashers CC
.
On Christmas Day, Simon suffered a massive rupture to his aorta and despite many hours of surgery, he sadly passed away on New Years Day 2020.
Simon was a wonderful supporter of Herts Seniors cricket. He was captain of our Home Counties 50+ team, but for the last few years he was a regular in the Over 60s teams.
Simon was a very competitive cricketer. He notched 1435 runs and his top score for the Herts Seniors of 86* was made against Berkshire in 2008. But his bowling was his strength. He bowled 935 overs, 82 of which were maidens. He conceded 4179 runs and he took 125 wickets, which put him at 11th in the all-time wicket-takers list for the Seniors.
Even at 65, he was still playing for Old Haberdashers 1st XI last season.
He was very supportive as shown by his final game being at Midsomer Norton v Somerset where he took 3 for 39 off his 9 overs.
He and I went together to a few Spurs games and he loved his rugby.
He will be missed as a cricketer, a gentleman, an avid sports fan and a friend.
