SEN Cricket Competition at Inter FE College Games.....
Oaklands College won the 1st ever Adapted Cricket Competition at the Hertfordshire Inter FE College games at the Hertfordshire Sports Village on 24th March 2015.
Teams from Hertford Regional College, North Herts College and Oaklands College competed in an adapted competition involving batting, catching and fielding stations as well as round robin competition of matches with Oaklands College winning their 2 matches ahead of North Herts College, who finished in 2nd place and Hertford Regional College in 3rd. A full list of the results can be found below.
With rain forecast, everyone was delighted that the sun shone intermittently and the day stayed dry for this annual event. Held at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, students from across Hertfordshire were competing for their Colleges. The event follows a series of Sportivate sport sessions in each of the colleges throughout the autumn and spring terms and provides a fantastic opportunity for everyone to take part and compete. Competitions for both the mainstream and disability students were hard fought and competitive, contributing to the overall scores.
Oaklands College won the main trophy but our local students put in some great performances and excelled in some events.
A polished and engaging dance performance by Oaklands College Performance Arts students got things started and an interview with netball international and Hertfordshire Maverick’s captain Sasha Corbin inspired the competitors. She talked about her netball career and the importance of being well organised so there is time for education and sport, as well as time out.
A collaborative approach to the Inter FE Games involves an effective partnership between the four colleges, the relevant National Governing Bodies of Sport, the massive team of Hertfordshire volunteers from across the county and the Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership (HSP). HSP funds and organises the Games, led this year by project officer Shelley Woods.
She would like to thank everyone involved in making such a fantastic day of sport possible. As the final medals were being awarded, Shelley said,
“I am delighted with how successful the FE Games have been again this year. The venue here at the Hertfordshire Sports Village has been brilliant and everyone, all the volunteers, officials, staff and participants have contributed to that. The level of competition has been intense but friendly and I congratulate everyone who took part.”
