Hertfordshire Secondary Schools build up to Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week with Super 8's Under 13 and Under 15 Festivals
Secondary Schools from all across Hertfordshire have this week been involved in outdoor cricket tournaments following the success of the indoor tournaments earlier on in the year. Hertfordshire's Chance to Compete "Super 8's" competitions we blessed with good weather, fantastic settings and a good quality of cricket, which typified the ever improving girls development programmes within the county.
The Under 13 tournament took place on Thursday afternoon at Stevenage Cricket Club. Knights Templar, Nobel, Beaumont, Simon Balle, Herts & Essex, John Warner and Queenswood took part in a two group tournament with the eventual winners being Herts & Essex – who now go on to the regional finals for their age group next month.
The previous day was the turn of the U15 girls at Bishops Stortford Cricket Club, with Nobel, Herts & Essex, Simon Balle, Knights Templar, John Warner, Onslow and Queenswood taking part. Simon Balle were the winners on the day going on to the regional finals as well.
The tournaments were a great opportunity for girls to be able to compete against each other, with everyone enjoying themselves and embracing the power and the spirit of cricket!
Chances to Compete Super 8's tournaments are taking place across the country due to the Chance to Shine programme. Now well into its tenth year, the Chance to Shine campaign continues to motivate and educate youngsters through cricket, with more girls than ever playing last year. Of the 350,000 youngsters engaged in Chance to Shine in 2014, 46% were girls.
Hertfordshire Cricket would like to thank Stevenage and Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club's for their help and support in hosting the competitions and to all the schools for taking part and congratulations to our two winners Herts & Essex and Simon Balle.
