England vice-captain visits Aboyne Lodge and Park Street Schools.....
We were extremely fortunate to have Chance to Shine ambassador and England women’s vice-captain Heather Knight for the day on Tuesday 19th April. Along with Eddie Ballard, Heather delivered six sessions at Aboyne Lodge primary school and Park Street primary school in St Albans trying to inspire kids to take up cricket.
Chance to Shine currently employs seven England players on coaching contracts. Combining their international training and playing commitments with high quality inspirational coaching, young girls in Hertfordshire had the unique opportunity to meet and be coached by the country’s top female cricketers.
Now well into its tenth year, the Chance to Shine campaign continues to motivate and educate youngsters through cricket, with more girls than ever playing last year. Of the 350,000 youngsters engaged in Chance to Shine in 2013, 46% were girls.
Eddie Ballard, Cricket Development Officer said “We are delighted that Heather could spend the day coaching children in Hertfordshire. It was a fantastic experience for the participants and one they won’t forget. The two schools showed fantastic commitment to the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed the sessions”.
Madelaine from Aboyne Lodge said “In PE we have been learning how to play cricket, we had professional player Heather come in and it was really good. Heather has even beaten Australia. We did a warm up where we practiced our cricket techniques. We all had a great time and learnt lots”.
We look forward to having Heather back with Hertfordshire in the near future and once again we thank the two Schools Aboyne Lodge and Park Street for allowing us to come in.
