Details of the changes to ECB Coaching Qualifications from September 2013
There has been an extensive review of the courses that sit below the Performance and Elite player environments over the last few years. We are in the final stages of the development of refreshed Community Coach Education courses to commence from September 2013.
There are now two UKCC Level 2 courses which will allow coaches to train specifically for the age of player that they will be working with. There will be courses in ‘Coaching Young People and Adults’, aimed at coaches who will be working mainly with players aged 13 and above, and in ‘Coaching Children’, aimed at coaches who will be working with players aged below 13.
As the names suggest, the content of these courses will be specific to the players with whom
the coaches will be mostly working, although coaches can, of course, train in both specialisms.
For coaches who wish to development beyond UKCC2, there will be Diploma Level qualifications in both specialisms, which can be achieved after successful attendance of various Coach Development Modules, which replace the current ‘Coach Development Workshops’. Following successful completion of the Diploma for Coaching Young People and Adults, coaches have an opportunity to train as a UKCC3 ECB Performance Coach, although this opportunity is restricted to those coaches working at a minimum of U13 County Age Group level.
The other key change is that there is now no UKCC1 qualification but instead the old UKCC1 will be replaced by the ‘Coach Support Worker’ course, which is aimed at Parents, and the ‘Cricket Activator’ course, aimed at young people aged 14-17.
