The Boys and Girls Performance Pathways have been reviewed by the ECB FOR 2025-26; for Girls the County Age Group (CAG) squads now commence at U14s (which incorporates U13s too). The new Early Engagement Programme for younger girls (U10-U12) will be launched for Autumn 2025. Therefore, please do not nominate girls younger than U13 (school year 8) through this process.
Please note that parents, family and friends are not permitted to nominate players.
Player Eligibility
A player must be able to meet at least two of the following criteria
If less than two of the above apply, then the player does not meet the eligibility criteria to be nominated or play for Hertfordshire
There is no fee for players to take part in trials and the Hertfordshire Cricket Talent Support Fund is for talented players for whom financial barriers would prevent them from taking part in County Age Group Cricket.
U13-U14
At U13 through to U14 (School Years 8 - 9) Hertfordshire Cricket run Performance Squads which are the sole feeder to the Summer County Age Group (CAG) squads. Girls develop physically and mentally at very different rates. Therefore, Hertfordshire young cricketers will be assessed over a longer period of time before squads are selected in February/March. Our remit is the development of each child and helping them become the best adult cricketer they can be. All training and matches will be with a hard ball.
Trials will take place in late August and early September – dates, times and location of the trials will be shared with successful nominees.
Winter training will commence at the end of September and run through to February half term. We expect Performance squads will train on a Monday or Wednesday evenings at Chancellor’s School, Brookmans Park, Nr Hatfield (planning for next winter is still taking place)
If you have any talented cricketers, not currently part of our programmes, who you would like to nominate for any of the U13-U14 squads (must have hard ball experience) then please complete the nomination form via the link below.
Players already on our Performance Pathway do not need to be re-nominated; they will be continually assessed and considered for the next stage or our pathway.
U15-U18 COUNTY AGE GROUP
At U15 through to U18 (School Years 10 - 13) Hertfordshire will be running Winter indoor training between end September and March. This will take place on Friday evenings at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hatfield. In the summer there will be official ECB 40 Over and T20 competition matches, as well as friendlies.
Depending upon the number of nominations received we will decide if formal trials for this age group will be held or not; nominated players may be invited to attend U16 / U18 training sessions at the start of the winter to be assessed and considered for selection.
If you have any talented cricketers, not currently part of our programmes, who you would like to nominate and who will be in School Years 10 – 13 this winter, then please complete the nomination form via the link below.
Players already on our Performance Pathway do not need to be re-nominated; current players will be contacted directly by Hertfordshire Cricket.
For an explanation as to how the Performance Pathway works. please refer to the Hertfordshire Performance Girls Pathway.
Players who are already part of another county pathway ie Essex, Bucks, Middlesex, Cambs, Beds etc ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR NOMINATION. If players are being nominated for other counties for next season, then please DO NOT nominate them for Hertfordshire. We work with all of our neighbours to ensure that players only trial for one county in a season. This is only fair to players who are only eligible for one county.
If you have any questions regarding this then please contact Tanya Whitton tanya.whitton@hertscricket.org 07393 766435
We will work through all applications over the coming weeks and will contact parents directly if their child is to be invited to attend any trials which will take place at the end of August / early September. We cannot guarantee that all nominated players will be invited to attend.
Due to time constraints, we do not expect to be able to accept late nominations.
