The ECB's "Inspiring Generations" strategy aims to make cricket the most inclusive team sport in England and Wales, focusing on diversity, equity, and engagement with younger audiences.
Overview of the Strategy
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has launched its updated "Inspiring Generations" strategy, which outlines a vision for cricket to become more inclusive and accessible. This strategy is part of a broader effort to engage a wider audience and ensure that cricket is perceived as a sport for everyone, regardless of background or ability.
Key Goals
The strategy sets ambitious targets to be achieved by 2028, including:
Increasing Engagement: Aim to expand the number of people engaging with cricket—through playing, watching, attending, or following online—to an average of 14 million each year.
Youth Participation: Grow the number of children playing cricket weekly by 10%.
Gender Equality: Enhance visibility and access for women and girls in cricket, promoting it as a gender-equal sport.
Diversity and Inclusion: Improve diversity, equity, and fair access across all levels of the game, addressing barriers to participation.
Action Plans
To support these goals, the ECB has developed focused action plans that include:
Removing Barriers: Initiatives aimed at addressing structural and institutional challenges that have historically limited participation in cricket.
Community Engagement: Collaborating with local communities and organizations to promote cricket and ensure it is accessible to all.
Upcoming Events
The strategy coincides with significant upcoming events, such as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026 and the Men’s and Women’s home Ashes series in 2027, which are seen as opportunities to ignite passion for cricket and attract new fans.
The ECB's "Inspiring Generations" strategy represents a commitment to transforming cricket into a sport that is not only competitive but also inclusive and representative of the diverse communities it serves.
