U10-U12 YOUNG ANTLERS
This is the entry point of the Hertfordshire County Cricket Performance Pathway.
A programme with winter training and summer intra-squad matches.
Research challenges the predictive value of early selection (pre-maturation), and there’s general agreement that the efficiency and effectiveness of talent identification improves with age. Nevertheless, it is acknowledged that players of all ages benefit from effective talent development. In line with this some of the players are selected for extra Challenge Sessions.
U13- U14 COUNTY PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME AND COUNTY AGE GROUP (CAG)
At U13 through to U14 (School Years 8 - 9) Hertfordshire Cricket are running Performance Squads which are the sole feeder to the Summer CAG squads. Girls develop physically and mentally at very different rates. Therefore, Hertfordshire young cricketers will be assessed over a longer period of time before squads are selected in February.
Our remit is the development of each child and helping them become the best adult cricketer they can be. All training and matches will be with a hard ball.
Winter indoor training takes place between October and March. In the summer, for all players from winter, there will be a mixture of training days involving match play scenarios and long and short format intra-squad matches. All matches and training will be hard ball.
In the summer there are ECB fixtures for those selected for the U14 CAG squad.
We will aim to organise some fixtures of a friendly nature for those not selected for the summer squad; these are limited in number in line with ECB guidance.
U16 and U18 COUNTY AGE GROUP
At U15/16 and U17/U18 (School Years 10 - 13) Hertfordshire will be running Winter indoor training between October and March and will include strength and conditioning provision. In the summer there will be official ECB 40 Over and T20 competition matches (U16 and U18) as well as some friendlies to take into account the large age gap between U15 and U18 to enable some players to remain in the system who have exceeded the U14 age group but are not yet ready for the main U16 or U18 CAG squads.
