Club Welfare Officers are vital members of the club and key to making an environment safe, welcoming and friendly for children to enjoy the game of cricket.
Why do clubs need a Club Welfare Officer?
Whilst everyone is responsible for safeguarding, the Club Welfare Officer will make sure the policies and procedures are in place, and that everyone who should be vetted to work with children, is vetted by the ECB.
All Affiliated Clubs in Hertfordshire are required to have a nominated and trained Club Welfare Officer.
If you are thinking about appointing a new Club Welfare Officer, please look at the document at the bottom of this page which will outline the Roles & Responsibilities of this position and may help with recruitment.
The nominated officer must undertake the following training and complete an ECB DBS check:
- Safeguarding and Protection Children in Sport (SPC) Training Workshop*
- ECB Safe Hands for Club Welfare Officer's Workshop
Both of these training courses (plus the DBS check) have to be renewed after a period of 3 years.
They are the person that others come to if they have concerns, and having attended specific training, will know what to do in order to assist, or who to ask for further help.
