In Hertfordshire we have some exciting opportunities for cricketers with a disability to get involved with our disability pathway teams, offering regular training sessions and Competitive matches in ECB competitions. These offerings are open to anyone who is in year 9 at school or above and has a physical disability, learning disability or a hearing impairment. Players with Neurodiverse conditions can also apply to play but usually if you only report with a mild neuro diverse condition you may not be cleared by the ECB to play disability cricket
Herts/Essex Stags Super 9s regional team: In combination with Essex, we have a team in the ECB super 9s regional competition. This is a 30 over competition played with a very firm incrediball. Players are required to wear all the same protective equipment as usual. The matches begin in a regional group with the opportunity to qualify for a national final. Last season we competed against Essex Kestrels, Sussex, Kent, Middlesex and the Isle of Wight.
Typically, super 9s regional cricket is suitable for players who have prior cricket experience and is often played by player who also play hardball mainstream cricket typically to a standard of div 6 or below or club junior teams
There is a taster session for the team on the 30th November 5-8pm at the county ground in Chelmsford. There will be then 6 further training sessions after Christmas at a combination of the county ground in Chelmsford and Chancellors School in Brookmans Park. Essex D40 teams: Through our partnership with Essex, we are also able to provide the opportunity for Herts based players to trial for the Essex D40 teams. The D40 is the ECB hardball competition that in turn acts as a feeder to the disability premier league and the England disability teams. Essex has 2 teams, with the first team competing in the premier division and 2nd team competing in the 2nd division. Typically, D40 Premier division cricket is played by cricketers of Premier League-Div 2 standard and the 2nd division by players of a div 3-div 5 standard. There will be a trial session for the Essex D40 squads on the 7th December 5-8pm at the county ground in Chelmsford. To register your interest for this please contact Patrick.ward@essexcricket.org.uk
Hertfordshire Super 9s challenge team: Hertfordshire super 9s challenge team play regular soft ball fixures and festivals against local neighbouring counties, with weekly opportunities to train over the winter and summer. The matches are of a pairs nature and played with a softball designed to promote a fun and inclusive environment. The team play the vast majority of their home matches at Hatfield Hyde CC but there are training opportunities all over the county. To get involved please contact luke.heskett@hertscricket.org
Hertfordshire Comets VI Team: The Herts comets are our offering for players with a visual impairment. The team and adapted form of cricket with a bigger ball with a bell in it, with different rules of the game for players with different levels of sight. The team play their home games and train regularly at Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club in the summer and indoors in Hemel Hempstead in the winter.
